You’ve Been Told You Need a Root Canal…Now What?

May 26, 2017

Here at Pelham Family Dental Arts, there is no need for you to go to a specialist outside of our office. We have the specialized training and knowledge right here to take care of you. A root canal is needed when the nerve of a tooth, also known as pulp, is infected because of decay or trauma. In this case, the infection may spread and become abscessed. An abscess will have symptoms of a dull throb to intense pain. A root canal treatment must be done to save the tooth from being pulled and to prevent the abscess from traveling through the bloodstream to other parts of the body. Simply put, during a root canal procedure, the pulp is removed along with the nerve. Then the tooth is filled and usually a dental crown is placed to strengthen and protect the treated tooth. Root canal therapy is a relatively painless procedure that will significantly diminish the pain and discomfort of the infected tooth. If you are experiencing any of the pain mentioned above, or you have an injured tooth that has darkened, give us a call. We’re here to help!

May 26, 2017

1. Keep your exam and cleaning every six months with us. We will remove the built-up tarter and plaque from your teeth and gums to help keep them healthy. Exams are an important way to take care of dental issues before they become worse and most likely, more expensive. 2. Pay attention to any pain you have in your mouth. If it hurts, you’ve probably waited too long. Forming cavities are painless at first. Once they get bigger the tooth may become sensitive and throb. Gum disease is silent in the beginning. When you begin to feel pain, we will check for infection where there is a build-up of bacteria in your gums. Exams every six months enable us to treat problems early. (more…)
